Things that make you go....yummmm

Welcome to my blog

Hello!

My name is Dan Malvet and I am a chef with an affinity for all things food, whether it be edible flowers, a plate of sashimi or wild mushrooms foraged in the crisp air of a fall morning, it is my passion. I have years of experience in hot "pressure cooker" kitchens and similar experiences, although less stressful in the open coastal air of my many backyard gardens. From heirloom tomatoes, to not so native citrus trees ( yes we can grow citrus in coastal British Columbia ) and semi tropicals such as Passionfruit and Pineapple Guavas, the world is your oyster! Over the next few years, I plan on taking you on a culinary adventure from my own garden to plate while raising 3 children, we'll see how it goes :)  The only thing holding you back is your own creativity. With this blog, I plan on opening your eyes to the potential of what can be. However with 3 children ( 8, 7 and 1 ) and a more than fulltime career in food sales, my time for keeping you on the edge of your seat may be a challenge...but I'm gonna' give it a go!

So, sit back relax and enjoy some offerings I can put in front of you to tanatlize your senses, make your tastebuds crave some local fare and keep your green thumbs going!

Make a few batches of this summer favorite to be enjoyed all year long. Freeze it in ice cube trays for more manageable portion sizes....

Scandinavian Favorite! Gravlox

With my Estonian heritage still at a forefront in my cooking, one of my favorite things to cure is a nice steelhead trout or a super fresh salmon of your choice right out of the ocean, I would just tend not to use a pink salmon as they are more for smoking or canning ( in my opinion ). Below I have...
